See the sky from Attica’s historic museums and archaeological sites!

Many of Attica’s archaeological sites and museums are preparing something special for the full moon this year. On Wednesday August 21, museums and archaeological sites will remain open with free admission from early morning and into the night, so that visitors can observe the full moon. As this tradition gains popularity every year, the number of participating sites increases, too! Come take part in the truly mesmerizing event!
Apart from the splendid view of the moon, you can also enjoy concerts, shows, movie nights and archaeological tours!


In Athens

The Acropolis Museum will remain open from 8:00 A.M. until midnight with free entrance. Explore the museum’s exhibitions or participate in the musical events that will be held in the courtyard all while enjoying the view of the Acropolis bathed in the light of the full moon.
In the heart of Athens, on Panepistimiou Street, the Numismatic Museum will open its doors to the public free of charge with a tour from 18:30-20:30, followed by live music in the garden.

The National Archaeological Museum will be open to the public from 20:00 until midnight with different cultural events.
The municipality of Athens will organize a number of musical events at the Ancient Roman Agora with the full moon lighting the stage!
The Epigraphical Museum offers visitors a lovely evening under the moonlit sky.

At Sounio

The Temple of Poseidon at the ancient site of Sounio has become a favourite spot to see the August full moon with concerts from a number of popular artists.

The Amphiareion of Oropos

Surrounded by pine trees, the beautiful Amphiareion of Oropos hosts a number of musical events each year on August 15, adding a magical touch to the already enchanted area.


The Archaeological Site of Eleusis

In collaboration with the municipality of Eleusis, the Archaeological Site of Eleusis has planned a number of musical and theatrical events and has extended the hours for the Archaeological Museum of Megara.
The Sanctuary of Poseidon in Poros
Come enjoy the August full moon at the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Poseidon in Poros, featuring a piano recital by distinguished solo artists from the Academy of Music titled “Under the Moonlight”. This event has been going on for the past five years and is definitely not to be missed!

The Castle of Hora in Kythera
Watch August’s full moon as it reflects on the waters of Kythera from the lovely Castle of Hora! The castle will remain open for the evening for your viewing pleasure.
