Rigoletto, Conducted by Lukas Karytinos (Expired)

Image Gallery

Rigoletto, Giuseppe Verdi’s most famous opera, is presented in the Athens Concert Hall by the National Opera, under the stage direction of Nikos S. Petropoulos.

The director has transferred the action from 16th century Mantova to Benito Mussolini’s Italy, just before the outbreak of World War II. The dramatic music of Verdi perfectly matches the era’s ambiance, where everyone and everything appears in shadows.

The lead role of Rigoletto will be played by baritones Carlos Almaguer of Mexico City and Nelson Martinez of Cuba.

The role of the Duke of Mantova will be played by tenors Mario Zeffiri and Giannis Christopoulos. Gilda will be played by the famous Greek sopranos Vasiliki Karagianni, Maria Mitsopoulou and Christina Poulits, and Lukas Karytinos will conduct.
