The exhibition will remain open to the public until June 3, 2014.

he photos on display were shot between the years 2010 and 2012 in the countryside of the island of Syros. The initial concept for the theme of the exhibition belongs to art historian Marisa Daleziou, who scouted and chose the chapels that were photographed.

The inhabitants of Syros, the vast majority of which belonged to the Catholic denomination up to the mid-19th century, used to build chapels in the countryside, which looked exactly like orthodox chapels on the outside, while their interior attested to their affiliation with the Western-type churches in dogma and aesthetics. Platon Rivellis photographed the few chapels left standing, which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, and chose to render their exterior in black-and-white and their interior in color precisely to emphasize this particular contrast.

laton Rivellis was born in Athens in 1945. He studied Law in Athens (1963-1968), Political Science in Paris (1968-1970) and Photography in the United States (1983). He practiced law in Athens for twelve years (1971-1983). He has been a teacher of photography since 1981. He set up the model departments of Photography of the Ministry of Education’s lifelong learning program “Laiki Epimorphosi” and taught their instructors. He has edited a series of television shows on photography which aired on the Greek National Television. He has delivered numerous seminars and lectures on photography in Athens and other cities in Greece, as well as in Cyprus. His works have been featured in both solo and group shows. His articles have been published in several Greek newspapers and magazines. He is the Director of the “Photohoros” publications. In 1988 he founded the “Photography Circle” society, of which he is the President. He is the author of technical and theoretical books, as well as photography albums.
