Metamorphoses of Athens: A Photographic ItineraryMetamorphoses of Athens: A Photographic ItineraryMetamorphoses of Athens: A Photographic Itinerary

Commemorating the 180th anniversary the declaration of Athens as capital of the Greek state, the Herakleidon Museum, is hosting a photographic exhibit tracing the development of Athens from 1839 to 1950.

The exhibit will feature more than 100 authentic photographs from the collection of photography historian Haris Yiakoumis, some of which date back to the time when the art of photography was first invented. The transformation of the urban landscape and the development of the city can be seen clearly through this series of photographs. Neoclassical architecture, hills and scenes from the streets alternate constantly in a ‘live’ contrast with the modern-day city.
