Hygieia: Medicinal Practices Through Time

In the new exhibition at the Museum of Cycladic Art, entitled Hygieia, three hundred ancient artefacts from 41 museums in Greece and abroad – including the British Museum, the Louvre and the Capitoline Museums in Rome – bear witness to the evolution of ancient medicinal practices in the period from 1200 BC to the 3rd century AD.

The exhibition, which traces the changes in human thought and medical methods through the centuries, is divided into three thematic units: Health, Illness and Treatment. Each unit explores the transition from magical or religious healing practices to rational, scientific medicine.
