Cinderella

Staged for the first time with the Corps de Ballet of the Greek National Opera

The Greek National Opera is presenting the one and only ballet written by the ‘Waltz King’, Johann Strauss II, the impressive Cinderella, which was first presented by the Vienna Court Opera, with props and costumes designed by French fashion legend, Christian Lacroix. Unfortunately, the creator of the ballet did not live to see the premier, and the unfinished work was completed by his friend and fellow composer, Josef Bayer. The ballet will feature the Greek National Opera Orchestra, principal dancers, soloists, coryphées and Corps de Ballet, for only six performances at the Athens Concert Hall.

The choreography is by Renato Zanella, the Ballet Director of the Vienna State Opera.

Apart from some additions by Zanella, the ballet also offers a happy ending for the less-popular figures in the play, Cinderella’s stepmother and two stepsisters. The orchestra will be conducted by Ilias Voudouris.

It is worth mentioning that the ballet is being staged for the first time by the Greek National Opera.
