An original touch has been added to this year’s festival with the opening of the Athens Film Lab, a parallel programme involving the development of film ideas, the editing of scripts and search for co-producers, as well as special seminars and workshops. The 21st International Film Festival will be held in Athens in mid-September, under the auspices of Cinema magazine, presenting over 180 new films from around the world, including Greece, many of which will premier here before reaching the theatres.

Another ‘first’ this year is the festival’s cooperation with the Movement of Artists with Disabilities. As part of this cooperation, steps are being taken to improve the access of disabled persons to film venues. Also, many of the Greek films have subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, and arrangements have been made to have a sign language interpreter at the premier and closing ceremony.

Spectators with disabilities will enjoy free entry to all screenings and the schedule will also be available in Braille.
