The Red Lanterns – by Alekos Galanos (Expired)

Image Gallery

A 1963 noir box office hit is revived by the National Theatre, 50 years after its' first staging.

A combination of characters, theatrical and musical performances and the atmosphere of post-war Athens can be seen at the Marika Kotopouli stage. This modern version expected to be the boldest version of the “Lanterns”.

The story is about five prostitutes that live and work at Madame Paris’ brothel. Each one hides her very own secrets, passions and love stories. What is their truth? Is prostitution the mask that hides their human side? Their worlds will be shattered; they will crumble, as the law imposes for whore-houses and cabarets to be closed down. This play explores the human truth behind the mask of prostitution.
