The wonderful embrace of my mother (Expired)

Image Gallery

Scared by constant thunder and lightning, a two-year-old seeks his mother’s embrace. When he finds her, the two become one. Mother and child share a common existence until he decides to leave the safety of her embrace in order to explore the unknown and feel reborn.  It’s a symbolic trip that highlights the relationship between a child and his mother, as seen through the eyes of a young protagonist who, in this instance, is a life-size doll (created by Stathis Markopoulos, of puppet theater Ayusaya fame).  This is the main theme of the musical that will be playing at the Michalis Cakoyiannis Foundation for a few more days, following an extremely successful run.

The play may lack verbal communication but manages to stir the audience’s emotions through the use of humor, music, pantomime, body percussion, and vocal improvisation. These emotions focus on the cutting of the umbilical cord, adolescence, as well as the effort and agony of progressing alone. Dafni Kammenou stars as the mother and Foivos Symeonidis as the father.  Based on a story written by Stella Serefoglou, who also directs and acts in the play, it is a show that shouldn’t be missed.
