Lalaounis Museum (Expired)

Image Gallery

Admire female elegance in all its glory at the Lalaounis Jewelry Museum’s exhibition of ninety pouches and evening purses—all part of Liza Moussi’s private collection. These little treasures were sourced by the collector in the antique markets of Brussels and London and were chosen for their intricate design and fine attention to detail. As the collector maintains, “it was a great way to save the samples from being vandalized”.

Mrs Moussi entrusted the museum with her collection for the duration of the exhibition, which allows the viewer to take a rare glance at the history of each specimen.  Intricate purses made of silver, old wallets for coins, embroidered evening purses from the 1920s, designed by fashion icons such as Escada, Emanuel Ungaro, Yves Saint Laurent,  Fendi, and Bottega Veneta, peacefully co-exist with traditional Greek pouches and Far-Eastern purses accentuated with coral and beads that were favoured during Tibetan ceremonies.  The exhibition proves that cultural history is evident in everyday objects which may not represent high art but are, nonetheless, inextricably linked to the ceremonial traditions of different cultures.

It is also further proof of the museum’s commitment to showcase lesser-known art objects which are part of a seemingly inexhaustible number of private collections.
