It’s a Fairy Tale World (Expired)

Who can forget the first time they read the Frog King, Sleeping Beauty or Hansel and Gretel? Merely mentioning those classic books is enough to make young and old feel warm all over.

To celebrate the anniversary of the first publication of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales, the Goethe Institute of Athens is organizing an international book exhibition. The Grimm brothers could certainly not have imagined that their books, along with Luther’s Bible, would become the most well-known examples of German literary culture worldwide.

It’s a collection that has been translated into 160 languages and what makes it really special is that it expresses panhuman values regarding good and evil. The place of enactment is irrelevant and the personalities are familiar to all: the beautiful princess, the evil stepmother, the hero-savior. This interactive book exhibition was inspired by the Krafthaus Studio in Cologne and is divided into seven sections, guiding the visitor through Germany’s most important fairy tale motifs.

At the same time, the exhibition draws parallels with youth pop culture and includes several workshops and film projections.

The fairy tales will be read in both Greek and German by actress Michele Valley and actress/director Chryssa Kapsouli.
