Electrical walks (Expired)

The Goethe Institute of Athens invites you to take part in a walk that’s out of the ordinary.

Think of it as a walk into the world of technology where, with wireless headphones and a specially-drawn map, you’ll be able to receive electromagnetic signals as you walk past some of the city’s points of interest. The inspiration behind this unique operation is Christina Kubisch, a first-generation sound artist. The avant-garde composer combines various techniques in her work, such as magnetic induction. Since 1986, she has been adding light as an artistic element to her work with sound.

Christina Kubisch's work displays an artistic development which is often described as the "synthesis of arts" - the discovery of acoustic space and the dimension of time in the visual arts on the one hand, and a redefinition of relationships between material and form on the other.

The idea behind the Electrical Walks is that listening to electromagnetic fields offers a unique view into our everyday reality. In short, nothing sounds as it appears and nothing appears as it sounds.

You can borrow the special headphones and the specially-drawn map from the Goethe Institute’s reception daily, between 10:00 and 16:00. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Athens in a way that sounds truly interesting.
