The year 2013 is the year of Kavafis, one of Greece’s most celebrated poets. On Tuesday, February 26, famous soprano Sonia Theodoridou pays tribute to the Alexandria-born poet, with a concert at the Pallas theater accompanied by the orchestra Mobile. The concert will include fourteen songs composed by Athanasios Simoglou based on Kvafis’s poems and will be conducted by Giorgos Nanouris.

Author Victoria Hislop, of “The Island” fame, and actor Tassos Nousias will recite several of Kavafis’s better-known poems. Sonia Theodoridou is a graduate of the National Conservatory “Manolis Kalomiris” and continued her studies in Cologne and London under a “Maria Callas” scholarship. She has appeared at some of Europe’s most famous opera houses, such as the Frankfurt Opera, the Berlin National Opera House, the Hamburg National Opera House, Munich’s and Stuttgart’s National Theatres, as well as the Theatre Chatelet in Paris and the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels.

Sixteen female students from the theatre group of Charoula Sabatakou will also take part in this unique performance.
