Greek folk songs meet the music of Anatolia.

BalKanatolia is a unique music group which combines melodies originating from Greek Smyrna with traditional Turkish music, rock tunes and rhythmic ethnic sounds. Over the years, the group has been joined by many well-known Greek performers, such as Miltos Paschalidis, Lakis Chalkias and Christos Thivaios, and has played alongside famous Turkish musicians such as Haluk Levent, Sevval Sam and Gayda Istanbul.

For three nights, BalKanatolia will be performing at Half Note Jazz Club, introducing a modern touch to traditional music from Anatolia, the eastern Balkan region and Greece.  With Vangelis Kontopoulos doing his magic on bass, Christian and Muslim musicians bring to fore the optimistic view of different religions peacefully co-existing though the power of music.

Their current program fuses together Greek and Turkish traditional songs, adapted in such as way that it can only be described as “explosive and anarchic”.
