Musical evenings at the Acropolis Museum (Expired)

Image Gallery

From February 15 until Easter, Friday evenings at the new Acropolis Museum are devoted exclusively to some highly unusual music groups. So if you want to listen to some extraordinary music in an otherworldly setting (picture ancient Greek statues and the Parthenon as backdrops) make sure you’re free from 19:00 onwards.

February 15
“Traditional songs of Ireland”
Happiness, love, pastoral life and immigration are all favorite subjects of traditional Irish music. Pianist Lambrini Gioti and guitarist Giorgos Tsibouxis interpret songs in English and Irish, in their own, unique way.  (Is there a better way to celebrate Ireland’s current holding of the EU’s rotating presidency?)

March 1
“Claude Debussy” The poet of modernism. Pianist Hugues Leclere interprets 22 new works written by G. Pesson, P. Hersant and T. Escaich specifically for the 150th anniversary of Debussy’s birth.

March 15
“Music masterpieces from Poland” Klaudia Delmer’s voice is accompanied by Iwona Glinka’s flute and Dionysis Mallouchos’s piano in this musical performance comprising romantic melodies written by some of Poland’s most famous composers, such as Chopin, Lutoslawski, Moniuszko, Tansman, Dobrzynski  και Penderecki.

April 12
“A musical voyage to Spain” This musical evening features authentic Spanish works as well as arrangements for guitar and mandolin, dated from the Baroque period to the 20th century. With Ana Belen Tejedor de la Inglesia on the mandolin and Giannis Sofos on the guitar.

April 26
“Pan’s flute. Ancient Greece meets French Romanticism.”
The Ancient Greek god Pan has found his way into the works of composers such as Debussy, Satie, Marc, Mouquet and Roussel. Petros Stergiopoulos and Anastasios Strikos play the flute and the piano, respectively.
