Temple of the Muses

Near the Temple of Hippolytus lies the mythical sanctuary of the Muses, or Ardalidae. The name derives from a probably mythical Ardalus who, according to Plutarch, was a composure and founder of the temple. In this prehistoric sanctuary King Pitheas, grandfather of Theseus, was said to teach the art of rhetoric.
