Mount EgaleoWalk on EgaleoMount Egaleo

Mount Egaleo marks the dividing point between Attica’s north (Egaleo) and its south (Poikilo Oros). Since 1922, the foot of this 465-metre mountain has seen extensive development, with the suburbs of Haidari, Egaleo, Agia Barbara, Korydallos, Nikea and Keratsini fanning out toward Athens and Piraeus.

The towns of Egaleo and Poikilo Oros are separated by Athinon Avenue, which leads to Eleusis, Megara and Corinth.

The northern slopes of the mountain have been heavily forested, yet remain ecologically vibrant, especially since the removal of the flocks of goats and sheep that once stripped Egaleo of its vegetation.
