War Museum

In 1964, the Greek state decided to establish a museum to honour those who fought for the Greek independence throughout its long history.

Chaired by Thucydides Valentis, a professor at the Technical University, the committee designed a truly impressive museum that opened in 1975.

Since then, thousands of visitors, including many students, have come to explore the museum’s permanent and temporary collections.

The museum has also helped erect monuments, funded publications and supported a number of organizations related to its mission.

Exhibits dating from the prehistoric era to the present are distributed throughout the museum’s four floors. Displayed on the outer walls of the building is a remarkable collection of military weapons, including cannon, heavy guns and aircraft from wars throughout history.
