About 100 metres behind the port of Dapia in the residence of Laskarina Bouboulina, heroine of the Revolution of 1821, lies the Bouboulina Museum.

Established in 1991 by her descendant, Philippos Demertzis-Bouboulis, the museum commemorates the Revolution and the formative military role played by Laskarina Bouboulina, the only woman ever to become an admiral. Built in the late 18th century by a Moorish architect, it mimics the design of most of the island’s manors, with a ground floor and two upper floors.

The first floor displays old furniture, books, weapons, personal items, official documents and letters written by the heroine. The exhibition also showcases the great hall, dining room (which boasts a stunning wooden ceiling), reception hall and living room with fireplace.

Tours must be pre-arranged, and hours of admission are posted on notices throughout the town. The museum is closed in winter.
