Once known as Liopeshi, Paiania lies to the east of Mount Hymettus, on the historic and fertile plain of Mesogeia.

Famous for its agricultural products, especially wine, the area has been cultivated since antiquity. Today, the Vorres Museum, and the Koutouki Cave are the area’s major attractions. Located near the Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos), Paiania is easily accessible from Athens and eastern Attica by suburban rail or the Hymettus peripheral road.
