Within walking distance of the Cathedral of Aegina visitors can find the Governor's Mansion. This two-storey stone building was home to the first Governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, and the young state's administrative and governmental services.

Since the relocation of the capital from Aegina, the building has been used as the bishop’s residence, a primary school, an archaeological museum, a high school and even as military headquarters during the German occupation. The mansion now houses Aegina’s historical archives.
