Camera Obscura

The Camera Obscura is a seven-metre spherical chamber with 12 small openings. As exterior light enters through the openings, the interior is illuminated with panoramic images seeping in from outside.

Projected on a circular, semi-opaque screen hanging from the building’s ceiling, this unique, 360º visual phenomenon is a real experience. This installation was the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

Constructed from wood and built on the foundations of a World War II anti-aircraft base, the Camera Obscura is based on an original concept by Gustav Deutsch. Installed in 2003 as a part of the Light and Image Exhibition, it is one of the most interesting attractions in Aegina.
